This monitor checks to see if sufficient staging space is available for replication activity on the monitored computer.
The DFS Replication service may register this event if it detects insufficient staging space for the replicated folder. After registering this event, the service automatically tries to free up space in the staging area by deleting old staging files.
Event: 4208
Anti-events: 4210, 4002, 4008, 4010, 4114, 1004, 1104
If you notice this event occurring frequently, consider increasing the staging quota that has been configured for the affected replicated folders. If the volume is running low on space, consider relocating the staging area for the affected replicated folders to another volume.
DFS Replication uses staging folders for each replicated folder to act as caches for new and changed files that are ready to be replicated from sending members to receiving members. These files are stored under the local path of the replicated folder in the DfsrPrivate\Staging folder. By default, the quota size of each staging folder is 4,096 MB. The size of each folder on a member is cumulative per volume, so if there are multiple replicated folders on a member, DFS Replication creates multiple staging folders, each with its own quota. When the quota is reached, DFS Replication deletes old files from the staging folder to reduce the disk usage under the quota.
The DFS Replication service may register this event in the following scenarios.
If the disk hosting the staging area is full, the DFS Replication service may encounter disk full errors while trying to stage or replicate files.
If the current staging area disk space utilization has reached the configured quota (default of 4096 MB), the DFS Replication service does not have any more space available for staging activity.
Under such conditions, the service will automatically clean up some space from the staging area to make room for newly staged files.
The DFS Replication service will try to cleanup staging area automatically. If you notice this event being registered frequently, it is recommended to increase the staging quota for the replicated folder. Use the DFS Management snap-in to increase the staging quota for the affected replicated folder.
Since the staging folder is used as a cache for new and changed files during replication activity, it is important to configure the size/quota of staging folders optimally, depending on the workload being replicated. For information about optimizing the staging folder size, see Edit the Quota Size of the Staging Folder and Conflict and Deleted Folder (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=165779).
